Ceres at Washington State University has its beginnings during the spring of 1999 when a group of women
were looking for something to call their own. Something that would bring together a love for agriculture, high academic standards
and a family away from home. This is when some women remembered hearing about Ceres at a national FFA convention.
Later that year, September 1999, Ceres International recognized us as a Colony. This is when we really
kicked it into gear by writing by-laws, establishing scholarship, community service, social and other programs and keeping
in close contact with Ceres International as well as Greek Affairs at WSU. Only one year after our colonization, our hard
work had paid off. We chartered, September 16, 2000, gaining full chapter status. On that date, 21 members were initiated
with both an Alpha and Beta class and in addition, two associate members were also initiated.
Since chartering we have expanded our range of activities with various social, community service, and sisterhood events.
Members are also involved in a wide range of activities outside of Ceres that the Pullman community
and Washington State University has to offer. Even though Ceres is an agricultural organization, members do not have to have
a background in agriculture nor do they have to major in agriculture. Ceres is for women who have an appreciation for agriculture.
Members majors vary from Animal Science to Elementary Education, from Agricultural Economics to Biology.
